The influence of technology

The influence of technology

1. Document one day on a daily basis

First thing in the morning I’m woken by the alarm clock built into the system of my phone, afterwards I get ready for school, I don’t use an electric toothbrush I do it the old fashioned way with a rhythm, usually I check the clock on my phone to know when to leave the house, then I take a taxi to the college and once I have arrived at the college I sometimes take the lift to the second floor where I usually get classes. I listen to music that I have uploaded to my phone as a personal play list. One thing that has compulsory to my day is the use of computers; I use them at least 40 percent of my day. After a day at the college I take the taxi home, once at home use the computer or go on the Internet for research, afterwards watch some TV while I check if any work needs to be done, set the alarm and then go to bed.

2. Describe your own feelings about how technology affects your life for the better or worse. Compare your parents view on this

a. Technology makes my life easier in a positive manner, but also makes it a routine which makes me and others predict the course of my day, this of course is annoying and sometimes think technology rules people and does not reveal what type of person you really are it basically affects my life in a negative and positive way. My feelings on technology are that I love technology. It shows us that nothing is impossible when it seems to be impossible. Technology shows that we as humans are evolving.
b. My parents believe that technology like phones makes it easier to get in touch or communicate with me at any time and making their lives easier like cars for transport, stoves, microwaves etc. They think technology shows us that nothing is impossible, but believe there is a negative point of view as well like the influences of porn on the net and the graphical violence that is exploited on television, the ability of technology taking away the privilege of reading books. They try to give me what they had growing up and what the world has to offer in a technological manner.

4. Find articles that deal with broader issues relating to technology

Images records technology in the presence of history, depicting where, when and how it was deployed, and these images also had two main aims to understand the means of technology and as a means to reflect on historical method. (History and Technology. www.tandf.co.uk/journals/titles. Routledge)

The invention of computers has helped researches do their work in a matter of days or weeks instead of years. By the use of Internet one can send questionnaires and collect responses from potential respondents spread across the world. The ease with which questionnaires can be filled-in and sent back using computers has undoubtedly improved the response rate and statistics. Computer helps in analysing data, with a click of mouse one can create charts and pictorial presentation of data.
